Let \(\alpha\) be a totally real algebraic integer of degree \(d\). The author gives a lower bound for the absolute value of the conjugates of \(\alpha\) in terms of \(d\) and the number of conjugates lying outside the interval \([-2,2]\). On combining this with the lower bound for Mahler's measure of a polynomial, he obtains a lower bound for the maximal conjugate.
