A lattice \(L\) is called a lattice of a finite width if there is a natural \(n\) such that every antichain of \(L\) has \(\leq n\) elements. For a prime number \(p\) let us denote by \({\mathcal M}_p\) the variety of Lie rings given by the identities \(px=0\), \(xy(zt)=0\), \(xyz^p=0\), \(xy^px^{p-1}=0\). The main result of the article is the following: Theorem. Let \(\mathcal V\) be a variety of solvable Lie rings. The subvariety lattice of \(\mathcal V\) is of a finite width if and only if either \(\mathcal V\) is generated by a finite ring or \(\mathcal V\) is the join of a variety generated by a finite ring and the variety \({\mathcal M}_p\). An analogous result for associative ring varieties was obtained by \textit{M. V. Volkov} in 1979 (Dep.\ VINITI 22.10.79, No. 3805-79, 25pp.).
