A linear stability analysis is presented for an inviscid liquid sheet ejected into an inviscid gas. The authors study the influence of Weber number and gas-to-liquid density ratio on the evolution of two- and three-dimensional disturbances of symmetric and asymmetric type. It is found that two-dimensional disturbances dominate in the instability process at low Weber numbers. At large Weber numbers, symmetric three-dimensional disturbances become more unstable than two-dimensional ones for long waves. The authors give an explanation of different behaviors of three-dimensional symmetric and asymmetric instabilities.
