Comparison of L-R fuzzy numbers is presented. Considering L-R fuzzy numbers, other methodologies for comparing fuzzy numbers can be developed. Three indices based on the use of areas are studied: the expected value, the variance and the degree of coincidence of two fuzzy numbers. A theoretical and heuristic justification of the use of indices is given.
