Let \(g\) be a Riemannian metric on manifold \(M\), \(\nabla\) be its Levi-Civita connection and denote by \(\mathrm{Aff}(M,g)\) and \(\mathrm{Proj}(M,g)\) the affine and projective groups associated to \(\nabla\), respectively. The author deals with a classical problem: Characterize pseudo-Riemannian manifolds \((M,g)\) for which \(\mathrm{Proj}(M,g)\supsetneqq\mathrm{Aff}(M,g)\), that is, \(M\) admits an essential projective transformation. In particular, he proves rigidity facts for groups acting on pseudo-Riemannian manifolds by preserving unparametrized geodesics. | |||
