We prove that if a solution of the Einstein field equations with perfect fluid source and \(\gamma\) law equation of state \([p=(\gamma -1)\mu]\) admits an isotropic singularity, then necessarily the fluid flow is irrotational. This shows the essential equivalence of the seemingly distinct concepts of quasi-isotropic singularities and Friedmann-like singularities of \textit{E. M. Lifshitz} and \textit{I. M. Khalatnikov} [Adv. Phys., Q. suppl. philos. Mag. 12, 185-249 (1963; Zbl 0112.443)] and \textit{D. Eardley, E. Liang} and \textit{R. K. Sachs} [J. Math. Phys. 13, 99-106 (1972)], respectively.
