In a previous paper by \textit{B. Y. Chen} [Bull. Soc. Math. Belg., Sér. B 39, 243-254 (1987; Zbl 0628.53011)] it was conjectured that ``The ordinary spheres are the only closed surfaces of finite type''. In the present paper it is shown that the only quadrics of finite type in Euclidean 3-space are the circular cylinders and the spheres.
