New models for completely nonunitary contractions with rank one defect operators are presented in this paper. These complement well-known models of Livšic and Sz.-Nagy-Foiaş. It is shown that such a contraction is unitarily equivalent to a matrix obtained from a CMV-matrix [\textit{M. J. Cantero, L. Moral} and \textit{L. Velázquez}, Linear Algebra Appl.\ 363, 29--56 (2003; Zbl 1022.42013); ibid.\ 408, 40--65 (2005; Zbl 1072.42020)] by deleting the first row and the first column. The relationship between the characteristic functions of sub-matrices of the truncated CMV matrix with rank one defect operators and the corresponding Schur iterates is established. The direct and inverse spectral analysis for truncated CMV matrices is also given. The paper concludes with proving uniqueness theorems for recovering finite and semifinite truncated CMV matrices from the given spectral data.
