Let \(p\) be a rational prime, \(k\) a perfect field of characteristic \(p\), \(W\) the ring of Witt vectors over \(k\) and \(K\) a finite totally ramified extension of \(K_ 0=\text{Frac} (W)\) of degree \(e\). Let \(G_ K=\text{Gal}(\bar{K}/K)\) where \(\bar{K}\) is an algebraic closure of \(K\). Let \(G_ K^{(j)}\) denote the \(j\)-th upper numbering ramification groups in the sense of \textit{J.-M. Fontaine} [Invent. Math. 81, No. 3, 515--538 (1985; Zbl 0612.14043)], that is, \(G_ K^{(j)}=G_ K^ {j-1}\) in the usual sense. In his paper, Fontaine conjectured that \(G_ K ^ {(j)}\) acts trivially on the \(G_{\bar{K}}\)-modules \({\mathcal L}/{\mathcal L}'\) and \(H^ r_ {\text{ét}}(X_{\bar{K}}, {\mathbb Z}/p^ n {\mathbb Z})\) for \(j>e(n+r/(p-1))\) if \(X_{\bar{K}}\) has good reduction. Here \(X_ K\) is a proper smooth scheme, \(X_{\bar{K}}=X_ K\times _ K \bar{K}\) and \({\mathcal L}\supseteq {\mathcal L}'\) are \(G_ K\)--stable \({\mathbb Z}_ p\)--lattices in the \(r\)--th étale cohomology group \(H_{\text{ét}}^ r (X_ {\bar{K}}, {\mathbb Q}_ p)\) such that \(p^ n\) kills \({\mathcal L}/{\mathcal L}'\). In the paper under review the author proves that for \(j>u(K,r,n)\), \(G_ K ^{(j)}\) acts trivially on the \(p^ n\)-torsion semi-stable \(G_ K\)-representations with Hodge--Tate weights in \(\{0,\ldots, r\}\), where \(u(K,0,n)=0\), \(u(K,1,r)=1+e(n+1/(p-1))\) and \(u(K,r,n)= 1-p^{-n}+e(n+r/(p-1))\) for \(1<r<p-1\).
