The paper uses free products, and reduced free products, of \(C^*\)-algebras to define two notions of joinings of \(C^*\) dynamical systems. Some differences of this approach from an earlier approach based on tensor products are noted. Ergodicity and disjointness are examined from the point of view of free joinings. The paper closes with an example of how this approach can be applied to the study of multi-time correlation functions in quantum statistical physics.
