The authors study interesting positivity properties of toric vector bundles which generalize to higher dimension positivity properties known for line bundles on a complete toric variety. First of all, the authors show that a torus-equivariant vector bundle \(\mathcal{E}\) on a complete toric variety \(X\) is nef or ample if and only if for every invariant curve \(C\) on \(X\) the restriction \(\mathcal{E}\bigr|_C\) is nef or ample, respectively. Using this results they describe the Seshadri constant of an equivariant vector bundle \(\mathcal{E}\) on a smooth toric variety \(X\) in terms of the decompositions of the restrictions of \(\mathcal{E}\) to the invariant curves on \(X\). The second main result proved in the paper says that if \(\mathcal{E}\) is a nef equivariant vector bundle on \(X\), then for every point \(x \in X\) there is a global section \(s \in H^0(X,\mathcal{E})\) that does not vanish at \(x\). As an application of this result the authors show that if \(\mathcal{E}\) is a toric vector bundle on a complete toric variety, then \(\mathcal{E}\) is trivial if and only if its restriction to each invariant curve \(C\) on \(X\) is trivial. These two results are used in order to study the vector bundles \(\mathcal{M}_L\) that arise as the kernel of the evaluation map \(H^0(X,L) \otimes \mathcal{O}_X \longrightarrow L\), for ample line bundles \(L\). The authors give also some examples of twists of toric vector bundles that are ample but not globally generated. In the final section of the paper are discussed several interesting open problems for toric vector bundles.
