The authors consider the spectrum of the Stokes operator that appears in the problem of a rotating body embedded in a viscous fluid. The problem of the motion of a rigid body in a fluid has a long history in the field of mathematical physics. It is studied the non-stationary Navier-Stokes system formulated in a time-dependent exterior domain in \(L^q\)-spaces. When the spectrum of the operator is analyzed in the whole space, it does not change with \(q \in (1,\infty)\) but it changes its type from residual to the continuous or to the point spectrum with \(q\). The results for exterior domains show that the spectrum consists of infinitely many equidistant parallel half-lines in the complex half-plane.
