Supercharacter theory was initiated by André and Neto and approximates the representation theory of the type \(A\) group \(U_n(q)\) of unipotent \(n\times n\) upper triangular matrices over the finite field \(\mathbb F_q\) with \(q\geq 3\). This paper studies supercharacter theory for the type \(D\) group \(U_n^D(q)\) of even orthogonal unipotent \(n\times n\) upper triangular matrices, giving a combinatorial approach of another classical Lie type. In particular the author provides a Hopf algebra structure on the space of superclass functions of \(U_n^D(q)\).
