Let \(G\) denote an abelian compact Lie group; however, we assume here that \(G=(\mathbb{S}^1)^d\) for simplicity. Then its character group \(\Gamma\) is isomorphisc to \((\mathbb{Z})^d\). Suppose we are given a list \(X\) of weights on \(G\) having the same rank as that of \(\Gamma\). Denote by \(DM(X)\) and \(D(X)\) the Dahmen-Micchelli modules which are defined below. We say that \(A\subset X\) is a \textit{cocircuit} if \(A=X\backslash \underline{s}\) for some codimension 1 linear space \(\underline{s}\subset X\) spanned by elements of \(X\). Then we define \({\mathcal L}(X)\) to be the set consisting of \(A \subset X\) such that \(C\subset A\) for some cocircuit \(C\). For \(a \in \Gamma\), let \(\nabla_a\) denote the difference operator on integer-valued functions \(f : \Gamma \to \mathbb{Z}\), i.e., the operator given by \(\nabla_af(x)=f(x)-f(x-a)\). Then \(DM(X)\) can be defined as a space consisting of integer-valued functions \(f\) on \(\Gamma\) satisfying \(\nabla_Af=0\) for every \(A \in {\mathcal L}(X)\) where \(\nabla_A=\prod_{a\in A}\nabla_a\). Similarly to this, \(D(X)\) can be defined; in fact it can be obtained by replacing, in the above, integer-valued functions with real-valued functions and \(\nabla_A\) with \(\partial_A\) where \(\partial_A\) is the product of the directional derivatives \(\partial_a\) with \(a\) running over \(A\). Let \(M_a\) be the 1-dimensional representation of \(G\) on which \(g\in G\) acts via the scaler \(a(g)\) and put \(M_X=\bigoplus_{a\in X}M_a\). Let \(M_X^{\mathrm{fin}} \subset M_X\) denote the subset of points having \(d\)-dimensional orbit. Then there is a result due to \textit{C. De Concini} et al. [J. Inst. Math. Jussieu 12, No. 2, 297--334 (2013; Zbl 1344.19004)], which states that the dual of \(D(X)\) can be realized as the equivariant cohomoloyg of \(M_X^{\mathrm{fin}}\), that is, we have \[ H_G^\ast(M_X^{\mathrm{fin}})\cong D^\ast(X). \] In this paper the authors give an analogue of this result for equivariant \(K\)-theory \(K_G\). Let \(S_X\) denote the unit sphere of \(M_X\). Then the authors succeed in extracting from \(S_X\) a compact subspace \(S_X^{\mathrm{fin}}\) and prove that applying \(K_G\) to it we get an isomorphism \[ K_G^0(S_X^{\mathrm{fin}})\cong DM^\ast(X). \] Finally, the authors provide a discussion of the case of local Dahmen-Micchelli modules.
