The authors introduce and study a non-local (extreme) operator which is an analogue to the classical Monge-Ampère operator. Namely, let \(u\) be a smooth convex function. Set \(\widetilde{u}(y)=u(x+y)-u(x)-y\cdot\nabla u(x)\). Given \(s\in(0,1)\), the fractional order Monge-Ampère-like operator \(MA_su(x)\) is \[ \inf\{-(-\Delta)^{s/2}[\widetilde{u} \circ \psi](0):\forall \psi\text{ measure preserving s.t. }\psi(0)=0\}, \] where \((-\Delta)^{s/2}\) denotes the fractional Laplacian. The authors consider the following problem. Let \(\varphi :\mathbb{R}^{d} \rightarrow \mathbb{R}\) be a smooth strictly convex function which behaves asymptotically as a cone at infinity, i.e., \(\lim _{R \rightarrow \infty }\varphi(Rx)/R\) is a homogeneous function of degree one, smooth away from the origin. The authors prove that the equation \(MA_{s}u(x)=u(x)-\varphi(x)\), \(x \in \mathbb{R}^{d}\) has a unique solution converging to \(\varphi \) at infinity. In addition, this solution is of class \(C^{1 ,1}\) (Theorem 5.9). The paper is concluded with remarks and open questions related to the fractional order Monge-Ampère-like operator \(MA_{s}\).
