The paper deals with the solution of certain boundary value problems for fractional differential equations in general Banach spaces. A common approach when dealing with such problems is to rewrite the given differential equations in the form of an integral equation. The main aim of this paper is to demonstrate that, in many situations, the integral equation obtained in this way is not equivalent to the given boundary value problem. An alternative concept is proposed that overcomes this obstacle.
