In this paper, a new approach to detect projective equivalences and symmetries between two properly parameterized rational parametric 3D curves is presented. To this purpose, the authors introduce two new differential invariants (projective curvatures) which allow to obtain the Möbius transformations associated with the projective equivalences, and from which these equivalences are easily achieved. The method consists in computing the gcd of two polynomials derived from these two new rational functions and, factoring over the reals, looking for the factors that have a Möbius function expression. This procedure avoids solving a large polynomial system of equations. The algorithm has been implemented in Maple and evidence of its efficiency is also provided.
