The authors investigate \(4\)-dimensional spacetimes admitting a \(W_{2}\)-curvature tensor in \(f (R,G) \) modified gravity. They prove that a \(4\)-dimensional \(W_{2}\)-curvature flat spacetime reduces either to the de Sitter spacetime or to the anti-de Sitter spacetime, according to whether the scalar curvature of the spacetime is positive or negative, respectively, and that its Gauss-Bonnet scalar is \(\frac{R^{2}}{6}\). They further prove that if a \(4\)-dimensional \(W_{2}\)-curvature flat spacetime \(M\) satisfies \(f (R,G)\) gravity, then a vector field \(\xi\) on \(M\) is Killing ( or a conformal Killing vector field) if and only if \(M\) admits a matter collineation with respect to \(\xi\) (or if \(T_{jk}\) has the Lie inheritance property along \(\xi\)). In addition, if \(M\) is a perfect fluid spacetime, then \(M\) represents dark energy.
