The Farrell-Jones conjecture for a group \(G\) says that for every small additive \(G\)-category (with involution) the assembly maps \[ H_n^G(E_{\mathcal{V}Cyc}G;\mathbb{K}_\mathcal{A})\longrightarrow H_n^G(\mathrm{pt};\mathbb{K}_{\mathcal{A}}) \] and \[ H_n^G(E_{\mathcal{V}Cyc}G;\mathbb{L}^{\langle-\infty\rangle}_\mathcal{A})\longrightarrow H_n^G(\mathrm{pt};\mathbb{L}^{\langle-\infty\rangle}_{\mathcal{A}}) \] are isomorphism for all \(n\in\mathbb{Z}\). Here \(E_{\mathcal{V}Cyc}G\) denotes the classifying space for the family of virtually cyclic subgroups. The authors prove the Farrell-Jones conjecture in the case where \(G\) is an arbitrary lattice in a virtually connected Lie group. Previously, the conjecture was only proved for cocompact lattices by \textit{A. C. Bartels} et al. [J. Am. Math. Soc. 27, No. 2, 339--388 (2014; Zbl 1307.18012)]. By an induction the on the dimension of the surrounding Lie group the conjecture is reduced to the case of an irreducible lattice in a connected semisimple Lie group. This uses well known inheritance properties of the Farrell-Jones conjecture as well as that it is known for virtually solvable groups by \textit{C. Wegner} [J. Topol. 8, No. 4, 975--1016 (2015; Zbl 1338.19002)]. In the above case the lattice is either a CAT(0)-group or a subgroup of \(\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{Q})\) and thus the Farrell-Jones conjecture is known by \textit{A. Bartels} and \textit{W. Lück} [Ann. Math. (2) 175, No. 2, 631--689 (2012; Zbl 1256.57021)] and [\textit{H. Rüping} J. Topol. 9, No. 1, 51--90 (2016; Zbl 1365.18010)] respectively. | |||
