The authors discuss propagation of SH waves in a layered piezomagnetic structure consisting of an elastic layer overlain by a piezomagnetic layer. The magnetic field and compressive stress act in the normal direction to the propagating wave. The governing equations are the constitutive relationship of the piezomagnetic material based upon strain-stress relationship under the influence of magnetic field and applied stress. These equations are simplified using the effective elastic constant, piezomagnetic constant and magnetic permeability. Using free surface conditions and continuity conditions at the interface, an algebraic system of equations is obtained. The dispersion relation results as a consequence of non-trivial solution of this system. The displacement and magnetic fields are then calculated. The numerical results are graphically presented to depict the effects of the magnetic field and the compressive stress on the group velocity and the surface displacement.
