Tthe author is interested in the action of the group \(\mathbb{C}^*\) on complete homogeneous varieties \(G/P\), where \(G\) is a simple group and \(P\) a maximal parabolic subgroup. The complexity of these actions can be measured using the notion of bandwidth. For each of these varieties the author gives the minimal bandwidth and the explicit subgroup \(\mathbb{C}^*\) of the maximal torus of \(G\) which realises this minimum. The author then uses his results to study the Chow group of the Cayley plane which is isomorphic to a particular \(G/P\).
