The authors develop the L1 Fourier spectral method to solve the time-fractional Navier-Stokes equation with periodic boundary condition. A numerical scheme based on the use of the Fourier spectral method in space and the L1 finite difference method in time to approximate the Caputo time fractional derivative is presented. Stability of the scheme is shown. The convergence is proved to be unconditional and its order is \(O(\tau^{2 - \alpha} + N^{- s})\), where \(\tau\) and \(N\) are the time step size and polynomial degree, respectively. A numerical example is presented to support the theoretical results.
