Traditionally in the complex domain analytic or constructible sets were studied. But the complex field can be considered also as \(\mathbb R^2\). Therefore complex subsets of \(\mathbb C^n\) can be semi-algebraic, subanalytic, definable as subsets of \(\mathbb R^{2n}\). This allows a deeper study of them, as the aforementioned classes were well studied during the late 20th century. In the present paper the author applies a local Gauss-Bonnet formula for closed subanalytic sets to the complex analytic case and obtains characterizations of the Euler obstruction of a complex analytic germ in terms of the Lipschitz-Killing curvatures and the Chern forms of its regular part. After a short, clear introduction, in Chapter 1, he recalls the local Gauss-Bonnet formula for closed subanalytic sets proved by \textit{J. H. G. Fu} [J. Differ. Geom. 39, No. 2, 251--280 (1994; Zbl 0808.32012)]. This is well explained in its historical context. By the way, a subanalytic set (Gabrielov, Hironaka, Lojasiewicz) is locally a projection of bounded semi-analytic sets (Lojasiewicz). Chapter 3 speaks about the Euler obstruction in a fairly geometrical way. In Chapter 4, the main local results are proved. Chapter 5 speaks about the global Euler obstruction and curvatures (it is worth noticing that Theorem 5.1 is the author's version of the Gauss-Bonnet formula). The main results in this chapter are Theorem 5.2 and Corollary 5.3. Chapter 6 is important, as it gives a positive answer to the question \textit{J. H. G. Fu} formulated in [Am. J. Math. 116, No. 4, 819--880 (1994; Zbl 0818.53091)] on the Euler obstruction and the Gauss-Bonnet measure. The reviewer appreciates the clarity of the paper and the background presented by the author (works of other mathematicians on these subjects).
