This paper provides new general compactness criteria in normed spaces via suitable family of seminorms defined therein. As applications, first it is shown that natural choices of families of seminorms in spaces \(C(K, \mathbb R)\) and \(\ell_p\) for \(p \in [1, \infty)\) lead to the well-known compactness criteria. Then, a simple compactness criterion in the space of functions of bounded Schramm variation is constructed.
