The authors consider a Dirac equation with a nonlinear zero order term and additional potential on a closed spin manifold. The nonlinearity is critical in the sense of Sobolev embedding -- analogously to the nonlinearity of the Yamabe equation. They prove existence of solutions under some mild assumption on the spectrum of the Dirac operator with potential. Their methods are based on the dual variational method as used in [\textit{T. Isobe}, J. Funct. Anal. 260, No. 1, 253--307 (2011; Zbl 1217.58013)] for the case with no potential and some spectral analysis for the Dirac operator with potential.
