This paper deals with \(\chi\)-algebras, that include the Orlik-Solomon algebra (the cohomology algebra of the complement of a complex arrangement of hyperplanes), the Orlik-Solomon-Terao algebra of a set of vectors and the Cordovil algebra of an oriented matroid. \(\chi\)-algebras have shown to be an adequate combinatorial set-up for a common treatment of these structures recently introduced in the literature, including the algorithmic aspects. For a recent survey, see [\textit{R. Cordovil} and \textit{D. Forge}, ``Gröbner and diagonal bases in Orlik-Solomon type algebras'', to be published]. They are defined as a quotient of a given graded algebra on a set by an ideal based on a matroid on the same set. In this paper, Gröbner bases of the ideal for different term orders are proposed. In particular, a universal Gröbner basis, minimal for inclusion, is shown to be in one-to-one correspondence with the circuits of the matroid.
