Let \(G\) be a connected semisimple real Lie group with finite center. Write \(G=KP\), where \(K\) is a compact connected subgroup, and \(P\) is a closed amenable subgroup. Let \(\lambda_{G/P}: G\to U(L^2(G/P))\) be the quasi-regular representation, and let \(L: G\to \mathbb R^{*}_{+}\) be a length function. Then the author shows that there exist \(d_0\geq 1\) and \(C_0> 0\) such that \[ \int_{G} \frac{\langle\lambda_{G/P}(g)\xi, \xi\rangle^2}{(1+L(g))^{d_0}}dg\leq C_0, \] for positive functions \(\xi\) in \(L^2(G/P)\) with \(\|\xi\|=1\). Then by Lemma 2.3 of \textit{Y. Shalom} [Ann. Math. (2) 152, No. 1, 113--182 (2000; Zbl 0970.22011)], one concludes that \(G\) has property RD. The proof, which is elementary and elegant, uses the Cauchy-Schwartz inequality and the disintegration of the Haar measure on \(G\) according to the polar decomposition. | |||
