The main contribution of this paper is the construction of a new class of space-time block codes (STBCs) from symmetric groups, in this case arithmetic Fuchsian groups associated with the regular octagon and dodecagon of self-dual tessellations \(\{8,8\}\) and \(\{12,12\}\), respectively. Space-time block codes arise in the context of multi-input multi-output digital wireless communication systems where one has multiple antennas at the transmitter, as well as at the receiver side. Construction methods for STBCs using division algebras already exist in the literature. The novelty of this work is the introduction of a new construction method for 2-by-2 STBCs from arithmetic Fuchsian groups from the self-dual tessellations \(\{4g,4g\}\), with \(g\geq 2\), where \(g\) denotes the genus of the compact surface. The authors also show that this new class of STBCs satisfies the properties of linear dispersion, full rate and full diversity codes.
