Mirković-Vilonen polytopes provide a combinatorial model for the crystal basis of the positive part of the associated quantum group in the case of a finite dimensional semi-simple Lie algebra. The main aim of the paper under review is to generalize the construction of Mirković-Vilonen polytopes to the case of symmetric affine Kac-Moody algebras. One of the difficulties is the fact that the datum of a polytope must be complemented by a partition attached to the edges which are parallel to the imaginary root. In the parallel with the work of the second author of the paper under review in the finite case, it is shown that these decorated polytopes are characterized by conditions on their normal fans and on their \(2\)-faces. It is also shown that these new polytopes provide an analogue of the notion of Lusztig datum for affine Kac-Moody algebras. The paper uses crucially representations of preprojective algebras and the corresponding tilting theory.
