The category FNS of fuzzy neighborhood spaces was introduced by \textit{R. Lowen} [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 7, 165-189 (1982; Zbl 0487.54008)]. The author presents several propositions in an effort to support the general conjecture that nearness in FNS depends on fuzzy relations between crisp subsets and crisp points of the space. The article culminates with an investigations of the fuzzy proximity spaces of \textit{G. Artico} and \textit{R. Moresco} [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 21, 85-98 (1987; Zbl 0612.54006)]. It is shown that the fuzzy topological spaces induced by such spaces belong to FNS and that such spaces can be defined by certain axiomatized fuzzy relations between crisp subsets. The process by which fuzzy proximity spaces may be induced from the fuzzy uniformities of \textit{R. Lowen} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 82, 370-385 (1981; Zbl 0494.54005)] is also investigated.
