Let \((A,B)\) be a pair of nonempty subsets of a metric space \((X,d)\) with \(A_0 \neq \varnothing\). The pair \((A,B)\) is said to have the \(P\)-property if, for every \(x_1, x_2 \in A_0\) and every \(y_1, y_2 \in B_0\), \[ d(x_1,y_1) = \operatorname{dist}(A,B) ~ \text{ and }~ d(x_2,y_2) = \operatorname{dist}(A,B) \Longrightarrow d(x_1,x_2) = d(y_1,y_2). \] In this paper, the authors study the best proximity pairs of some non-self mappings in metric spaces as well as in Banach spaces. The concept of \(h_l\)-contractive non-self mapping is introduced and stability of best proximity points is discussed. Some previous known results are obtained as particular cases.
