This booklet contains the written out lecture notes of an advanced course in the program \textit{Approximation theory and Fourier analysis} of the ``Centre de Recerca Matemàtica'' in Barcelona. It is an excellent introduction into the theory and use of Dunkl operators in the setting of \(h\)-harmonics. After an introduction into the theory of spherical harmonics and Fourier transform (\S1, 7 pages), the authors introduce Dunkl operators associated with reflection groups (keeping the prerequisites to a bare minimum). This is done in \S2 and the main concepts are \textit{weight functions invariant under a reflection group} and \textit{Dunkl operators}. The simplest weight is \[ h_{\kappa}(x):=\prod_{i=1}^d\,|x_i|^{\kappa_i},\quad x\in\mathbb{R}^d, \] where \(\kappa_i\geq 0,\,1\leq i\leq d\), and \(x=(x_1,\ldots,x_d)\): invariant under sign-changes and under the group \(\mathbb{Z}_2^d\). The Dunkl operator, a generalization of the ordinary partial derivative, is introduced using a positive root system \(R_{+}\) and \(\kappa_{\nu}\) a multiplicity function from \(R_{+}\) to \(\mathbb{R}_{\geq 0}\) \[ {\mathcal D}_i f(x):=\partial_i f(x)+\sum_{\nu\in R_{+}}\,\kappa_{\nu}\,{f(x)-f(x\sigma_{\nu})\over \langle x,\nu\rangle} \langle\nu,e_i\rangle,\quad 1\leq i\leq d. \] Here \(\langle\cdot,\cdot\rangle\) denotes the usual Euclidean inner product and \(R_{+}=\{e_i-e_j,e_i+e_j\,:\, 1\leq i\not= j\leq d\}\cup\{e_i\,:\,1\leq i\leq d\}\) the positive root system. As it is outside the scope of a review to give all definitions needed to follow the finer points of the lecture notes, the layout of the remainder of the booklet will be given below. {\parindent=6mm \begin{itemize} \item[3] \(h\)-harmonics and analysis on the sphere (20 pages) \item [4] Littlewood-Paley theory and the multiplies theorem (16 pages) \item [5] Sharp Jackson and sharp Marchaud inequalities (12 pages) \item [6] Dunkl transform (30 pages) addresses \(L^1\) and \(L^2\) theory, translation operators, convolution, summability, maximal functions \item {\S7} Multiplies theorems for the Dunkl transform (15 pages) \end{itemize}} Bibliography (75 entries)
