Let \((X, d)\) be a metric space. It is called ``thin'' (or asymptotically discrete) if, for every natural number \(m = 0, 1, \dots\) there exists a bounded subset \(V\) such that the closed ball \(B(x, m)\) centered at \(x\) with radius \(m\) is just \({x}\) for each \(x \in X\setminus V\). It is called ``sparse'' if for each bounded subspace \(Y\) has ``asymptotically isolated ball'' in \(X\), i.e., there exists a sequence \((x_n)\) in \(Y\), and an increasing sequence \((m_n)\) such that \(B(x_n, m_n)\setminus B(x_n, m) = \varphi\) for some \(m\) and each \(n\). Several characterizations and classifications are studied which involve further diversified definitions.
