The purpose of the monograph is to present, using the approach based on uncertain (one type of multi-valued) logics, the basic concepts, definitions and results concerning uncertain variables and their applications to the analysis of and decision problems concerning uncertain systems. The systems considered are described by traditional mathematical models and by knowledge representations. Chapter one presents the basic concepts of uncertain logics and variables. Chapters two to four deal with analysis and decision making for static plants, the knowledge representation being functional, relational, and logical, respectively. The fifth chapter presents the relational knowledge representation for dynamic plants. Chapter six shows the analogies between random variables, fuzzy numbers and uncertain variables, and introduces a common generalization for these three concepts, the soft variable. In the last (seventh) chapter some special and related problems are considered.
