Let \(X\) be a compact Riemann surface of genus \(g \geq 2\). Then the Teichmüller space \(T(X)\) is a complex manifold of dimension \(3g-3\). The author proves a comparison result for the differential metrics of Teichüller, Weil-Petersson, Bergman, Siegel, and Kobayashi. We will denote these metrics by \(ds_T,ds_{L^2B},ds_{WP}, ds_B\), and \(ds_K\), respectively. The Bergman metric is invariant under the mapping class group \(MCG\), thus descending to a metric on the moduli space \({\mathcal M}\). The author proves the following estimation: \[ \frac{1}{\sqrt{g}} ds_B \leq ds_K \leq ds_{L^2B} \leq \sqrt{g} ds_T. \] From this he obtains, that the moduli space \({\mathcal M}\) has finite volume in the metric \(ds_{L^2B}\), hence answering affirmatively a question posed by S. Nag. In the second part of the paper the Bergman and Weil-Petersson metrics are compared on the thick parts of \(T(X)\). For \(\varepsilon>0\) the \(\varepsilon\)-thick part \(T_\varepsilon(X)\) is defined as the subset of \(T(X)\) consisting of all Riemann surfaces with the property that the corresponding length of every essential simple closed curve is \(\geq \varepsilon\). The result is: For \(\varepsilon >0\) there is a constant \(C(\varepsilon)>0\), such that for any \(S \in T_\varepsilon (X)\) and harmonic Beltrami differentials \(\nu\) on \(S\) we have \(\|\nu\|_{L^2B}^2\leq C(\varepsilon)\,g\, \|\nu\|_{WP}^2 \).
