This paper suggests a new approach to knot theory, replacing the usual projection approach (instead of studying a knot in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) one studies its projection on a plane, which is a knot with normal crossings) by embedding in a three-page book (i.e. the union of 3 half planes along their common boundary). A partial algorithm for unknot recognition is also presented.
