Let \(\mu\) be a Radon measure in \(\mathbb{R}^{d}\) which may not be doubling, but should satisfy the growth condition, \(n\leq d\), \(\mu(B(x,r))\leq Cr^n\) for all \(r\) and \(x\). The author gives a definition for a space of type BMO for the measure \(\mu\), and it is shown to have many properties similar to the classical space BMO for doubling measures. Among them are a John-Nirenberg inequality, the predual is an atomic space \(H^1\), Calderón-Zygmund operators that are bounded on \(L^2(\mu)\) are also bounded from \(L^\infty(\mu)\) into the new BMO space. Also operators are bounded on \(L^p(\mu)\) if they are bounded from \(L^\infty(\mu)\) into the new BMO space and from the predual \(H^1\) into \(L^1(\mu)\). From this one can also obtain a new proof of the T(1) theorem for the Cauchy transform for non doubling measures.
