A continuum \(X\) is said to be retractable provided that each subcontinuum of \(X\) is a retract of \(X\). Let \(\mathfrak {M}\) be a class of mappings between continua. If for each subcontinuum \(Y\) of a continuum \(X\) there exists a retraction \(r: X \rightarrow Y\) such that \(r \in \mathfrak {M}\), then \(X\) is said to be \(\mathfrak {M}\) retractable. Main result: If a continuum is confluent retractable, then it has the property of Kelley if and only if each of its proper subcontinua has the property of Kelley.
