Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(R\) be a complete discrete rank one valuation ring with maximal ideal \(\pi R\), and residue class field \(R/\pi R\) of characteristic \(p>0\). \textit{J. F. Carlson} and \textit{A. Jones} defined [in J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 39, No. 3, 467-479 (1989; Zbl 0677.20005)] the notion of the exponent of an \(RG\)-lattice. This notion is used in the paper to show that any non projective absolutely irreducible \(RG\)-lattice \(L\) such that \(L/\pi L\) is indecomposable lies at the end of its connected component \(\Theta\) of the stable Auslander-Reiten quiver \(\Gamma_s(RG)\) of the group ring \(RG\). Another result says that a \(p\)-block \(B\) of a finite group \(G\) with defect group \(\delta(B)=D\) contains a virtually irreducible \(RG\)-lattice \(L\) with exponent \(\exp(L)=p\) if and only if \(|D|=p\).
