Let \(X\) be a space and \(A\) a subspace of \(X\). A vector bundle \(\zeta\) over \(A\) is called extendible (resp. stably extendible) to \(X\) if there is a vector bundle over \(X\) whose restriction to \(A\) is equivalent (resp. stably equivalent) to \(\zeta\) as vector bundles. The authors consider the problem of the extendibility of vector bundles over real projective spaces. This paper adds some new results to those given in a series of papers by the first author et al. Five theorems are proved here. The first two theorems deal with a usual vector bundle \(\zeta\) over \(P^n\) where \(P^n\) denotes the \(n\)-dimensional real projective space. The result is: If \(\zeta\) is a \(d\)-dimensional real vector bundle and \(n< d\), then \(\zeta\) is extendible to \(P^m\) for \(n< m\leq d\) and if \(\zeta\) is a \(d\)-dimensional complex vector bundle and \(n< 2d+1\), then \(\zeta\) is extendible to \(P^m\) for \(n< m\leq 2d+1\) (Theorems 1 and 2). The other three theorems deal with the tangent bundle of \(P^n\), its square and their complexifications. The proof is based on the ring structures of \(KO(P^n)\) and \(K(P^n)\) and, furthermore, it uses two theorems of an earlier paper by the first author with \textit{H. Maki} and \textit{T. Yoshida} [ibid. 29, No. 3, 631-638 (1999; Zbl 0946.55010)]. The paper is provided with a number of auxiliary propositions, and it is well written.
