For a discrete group \(G\), a \(G\)-CW-complex is a CW-complex upon which \(G\) acts by permuting the cells. A \(G\)-CW-complex is said to be proper if each cell stabilizer is finite. In the paper under review it is proved that for any connected CW-complex \(X\), there exists a discrete group \(G_X\) and a countable, proper \(G_X\)-CW-complex \(E_X\) such that the orbit space \(E_X/G_X\) is homotopy equivalent to \(X\). Furthermore, for each finite subgroup \(H\subset G_X\), the \(H\)-fixed point subcomplex \(E^H_X=\{x\in E^H_X \mid hx=x\), \(\forall h\in H\}\) is contractible.
