The authors investigate buildings whose apartments are isometric to the real hyperbolic space \({\mathbb H}^n\), \(n \geq 2\), tesselated by convex polyhedra such that the angle between any two faces of codimension 1 equals \(\pi/k\) for some \(k \in {\mathbb N}\), \(k \geq 2\). The number of these faces, which equals the rank of the building, can be greater than \(n+1\). So the reflection systems associated with these polyhedra are more general than the Coxeter systems of hyperbolic type. The geometric realizations of these buildings are CAT\((-1)\) polyhedral complexes. The authors use the amalgam method of Tits and Haefliger to construct many examples, some of which admit a big discrete parabolic group of isometries. Moreover, they show that there is no hope of obtaining a classification since in dimension 2 there exist too many nonisomorphic examples which are locally isomorphic.
