After an elementary introduction to the field \(Q_p\) of \(p\)-adic numbers, its complex characters and Haar measure, a so-called maximal operator \(M_p\) is defined as follows. Let \(f: Q_p\to \mathbb{C}\) be locally Haar integrable. For a ball \(B\subseteq Q_p\), let \(|f|_B\) be the average of \(|f|\) over \(B\). For \(x,t\in Q_p\) the number \(M_p(f)(x,t)\) is defined as the supremum of \(|f|_B\) over all balls \(B\) containing \(x\) with radius \(\geq|t|^{-1}_p\). (The authors fail to explain the case \(t=0\).) The main result is the proof of continuity of \(M_p\), restricted to certain spaces (for example as a map \(C(B_1)\to L^q(B_1\times B_2)\), where \(B_1\), \(B_2\) are balls containing \(0\), and \(1\leq q<\infty\)). The mathematical intuition behind the choice of \(M_p\) as an object of study remains undisclosed to the reviewer. (For Part I see [\textit{K. Ikeda}, \textit{T. Kim} and \textit{K. Shiratani}, Mem.
