The authors analyze the \(p\)- and \(hp\)-versions of the Galerkin boundary element method for hypersingular and weakly singular integral equations of the first kind on curves. The main results consist in some a posteriori error estimates as well as adaptive refinement strategies based on two-level space decompositions for the two versions. Some numerical tests for the Dirichlet boundary value problem for Laplace equation on an L-shaped domain are also carried out.
