A nonlinear singularly perturbed control system is considered. The design of a stabilizing control based on sliding mode techniques is discussed. An observer design is presented when only the fast state is available and the system's output depends on the slow state. Conditions are found yielding ultimate boundedness of the closed-loop system. An application is discussed in detail.
