The authors extend results on the structure of closed ideals from the \(H^\infty\)-setting (see, for instance, [\textit{P. Gorkin} et al., J. Funct. Anal. 177, No. 1, 107--129 (2000; Zbl 0982.46035)]) to Douglas algebras \(D\); these are uniformly closed subalgebras of \(L^\infty(\mathbb T)\) strictly containing the embedded algebra \(H^\infty(\mathbb D)\). They study those closed ideals whose hull (zero-set) belongs to the set \(G\) of all maximal ideals in \(D\) whose Gleason part is not a singleton. A characterization of the closed, (algebraically) finitely generated ideals with hull in \(G\) is given. Finally, tensor products of closed ideals in \(D\) are discussed.
