By assuming the existence of a pair of well ordered generalized lower and upper solutions, the authors prove the existence of a generalized solution, lying between them, of the non-homogeneous Dirichlet problem \[ (\varphi(t,x(t),x'(t)))'=f(t,x(t),x'(t)), \quad t \in [a,b], \qquad x(a)=A, \; x(b)=B. \] Here, \(\varphi\) is a continuous function, strictly increasing with respect to \(x'\) for fixed \(t\) and \(x\). Moreover, \(f\) is a Carathéodory function. The generalized solution and generalized lower and upper solutions may have singularities.
