The aim of the present paper is to recast and generalize a selection of results in equivariant geometry using the language of algebraic stacks. More specifically, given an affine linearly reductive group scheme \(G \to S\), the paper concerns three theorems. The first one is a generalization of a theorem of \textit{I.~Białynicki-Birula} and \textit{J.~Świȩcicka} [Math. Ann. 307, No. 1, 143--149 (1997; Zbl 0870.14034)] about the existence of a good quotient for the action of \(G\) on an algebraic space, the second one is an analogous of Matsushima's criterion which characterizes the linear reductivity of a subgroup scheme \(H \subset G\), and the third one is a characterization of the observability of a subgroup scheme \(H \subset G\). Lastly, the authors study the existence of good moduli spaces and they recover a modified version of a theorem of [loc. cit.] which establishes local conditions for the existence of a good quotient for the action of a connected algebraic group.
