The Fréchet space of rapidly decreasing sequences is defined by \[ s=\left\{\xi=(\xi_j)_{j\in \mathbb{N}}:\;|\xi|_n^2:=\sum_{j=1}^{+\infty}|\xi_j|^2j^{2n}<\infty\;\text{for\;all\;} n\in\mathbb{N}\right\}. \] In the paper under review, the author focuses on \(S=L(s',s)\), the space of all linear and continuous operators from the topological dual of \(s\) into \(s\). This space which is called the noncommutative Schwartz space, is a locally multiplicatively convex Fréchet \(*\)-algebra isomorphic to the algebra of rapidly decreasing matrices and is shown to be topologically simple. It is also proved that \(S\) admits a sequential approximate identity, while it does not possess any bounded approximate identity. As another result of this paper, one can point out that every positive linear functional on \(S\) and every derivation from \(S\) into an arbitrary Fréchet \(S\)-bimodule is continuous. The amenability and contractivity of \(S\) is considered as well; \(S\) is approximately contractible, whereas it is not boundedly approximately amenable.
