Let \(\mathbb{M}_n\) denote the space of complex \(n\times n\) matrices. Consider the map~\(\wedge^k\) that takes \(A\in\mathbb{M}_n\) to its \(k\)th antisymmetric tensor power (also called the \(k\)th exterior power, the \(k\)th compound, or the \(k\)th Grassmann power). Its \(m\)th derivative at~\(A\) is the map \(D^m\wedge^k{A}:\mathbb{M}_n^m \rightarrow\mathbb{M}_{n\choose k}\), \[ (D^m\wedge^k{A})(X^1,\dots,X^m)=\frac{\partial^m}{\partial t_1\cdots\partial t_m}\Big|_{t_1=\dots=t_m=0} \wedge^k(A+t_1X^1+\cdots+t_mX^m). \] The author presents a formula for this and for its operator norm. As a corollary, she obtains perturbation bounds for \(\wedge^k\). She also provides related results concerning the map that takes \(A\) to the \(k\)th coefficient of its characteristic polynomial. The special case \(\wedge^n=\det\) has earlier been studied by \textit{R.~Bhatia} and the author [Linear Algebra Appl.~431, 2102--2108 (2009; Zbl 1177.15006)].
